Starting April 01, 2015, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will implement an online system which will eliminate long queues and will shorten the application process. This will be a mandatory process for all applications. As such, you can’t just go to a NBI Branch and get a clearance, it’s required that you register first to their website and set an appointment.

Prior to the online application, you need to endure six tedious steps before getting a clearance. I can still remember, some two years ago, I have experienced this long process which took me a day before finally getting my NBI Clearance.

Effective 12 March 2018, the NBI will be charging a fee of ONE HUNDRED THIRTY PESOS (Php 130.00) per clearance certificate from the original ONE HUNDRED FIFTEEN PESOS (Php 115.00) to comply with the Documentary Stamp Tax (DST) rate adjustment.This is pursuant to Republic Act No. 10963, otherwise known as the “Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law” and the Revenue. When choosing the application date and time, take note that blue indicates available slots. Pay the NBI clearance renewal fee. After setting an appointment, proceed to the lower right corner of the same page and select your preferred payment channel.

Get your NBI Clearance Online using these easy steps:

1.Go to NBI’s official website http://clearance.nbi.gov.ph/ and fill-out the form with your valid e-mail address. Make sure to supply correct e-mail address because if in case you forgot the password you have set, you can easily retrieve it through your e-mail.


2.After you input your personal information, tick the box ‘I ACCEPT TERMS OF SERVICE.’

3. A pop-up message will appear for the Acceptance of Terms and Conditions, click ‘AGREE.’ More often than not, the Terms and Conditions are ignored by the user. It is recommended that you take the time to read it. Then click ‘Sign Up.’


4. Once you’re inside the portal, fill-out all necessary information correctly. Once done, click ‘SAVE INFORMATION.’

5. Check if all the information you’ve entered are correct. Make sure to double check everything to avoid any problems in the future. If there are errors, you can click ‘EDIT INFORMATION’ or if good to go press ‘APPLY FOR CLEARANCE’.

6. A pop-up message will appear for the confirmation. Select Application Type if its ‘NEW’ or ‘RENEWAL’. Then click ‘AGREE’.

7. A pop-up message ‘Important Reminder’ will appear. You can choose English or Tagalog, either way it is recommended to read this important message. It has something to do with your REFERENCE NUMBER and PAYMENT OPTION.

8. Now you have to set an appointment. Select the branch where you want to get your NBI Clearance. Choose your appointment schedule by clicking the ‘AM’ and ‘PM’ slots. Select the ‘Purpose’ and the ‘Purpose Details’.

9. Select your payment option. You can pay your NBI Clearance through Banks (Over the Counter), Banks (Online), Mobile Payment and Bayad Centers.

10. For the purpose of this example, I have chosen Banks (ONLINE) as my payment option. Once you have chosen your payment option, another reminder will pop-up. Click ‘Proceed to Payment’.

Note: The ‘Payment Reminder’ message will vary depending on the payment option that you have selected.

11. You will be redirected to a new window for the processing of your payment. Select your online bank and then click ‘Select’

Note: Online banks have different processes when it comes to handling your payment.

12. After you processed your payment, go back to the window of the NBI Clearance Online. A confirmation message will pop-up. Click ‘Close’.

13. You can check the status of your NBI Clearance application by clicking ‘Transaction’. My status is still unpaid because I have not processed the payment yet.
After finishing the above steps, you can now go to the NBI Branch for Data, Photo and Fingerprint Capture process. However before going to the NBI Branch, make sure you have the following:

Also, wear something appropriate. You may want to avoid tank tops, shorts, mini skirts and slippers. NBI has a strict dress code so make sure to follow it.

You can now proceed to Data, Photo and Fingerprint Capture. You can instantly get your NBI Clearance if you don’t have any “Hits”. Hits, as I understand it are persons with the same name as yours but with a criminal record. If that’s the case then you have to wait a week before your NBI Clearance can be released.
